The Crisis of Liberati in George Gissing’s New Grub Street

چکیده
George Gissing is a famous essayist and novelist in the late Victorian era. His masterpiece New Grub Street reveals negative impact of literary marketization on literature even culture by describing different living conditions literati. The novel depicts three types literati images, namely idealists who adhere to artistic standards, utilitarians cater market, female writers are edge literature, thus reflecting writer's critical attitude towards social reality that has become commodity.
